I work under the premise
that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Every face has a
story to tell and my job as an artist is to interpret that story and put it on
film. The black velvet background and shallow depth of field eliminates
any distractions. This in turn allows me to create a dynamic and intriguing
portrait.
Children are an exciting avenue for
storytelling. They are open and fluid. I like the mystery of not
revealing to the viewer whether the babies are male or female. Their
straightforwardness gives me everything I need for a provocative
story.
I’ve chosen an exciting medium for my
art. There is no formula. Each new subject is an exciting challenge. Rodin,
said “Don’t look at things, watch them.” Wise words I attempt to follow.
I know when it works. It’s a physical feeling combined with instinct and
experience telling me so.
My portraits are in private collections
worldwide and have been selected by Jane Jackson, curator of the Elton John
Photography Collection, for inclusion in shows at at The Atlanta
Photography Group, Atlanta. Ga
